Employers and Sector Skills Councils are already recognising the business case for equality and diversity. Sector Skills Agreements are noting the importance of equality and diversity in the workplace.

The UK Skills Strategy [the Leitch Report] has been devised to address current and future workforce development issues and has identified equality and diversity as crucial to successful workforce development. Our UK workforce is changing its composition, skills, talents and the aspirations and expectations of the workplace. To ensure that our workforce is equipped for the economy in the 21st Century, employers and sector skills councils cannot avoid addressing equality and diversity in the workplace.

Whether you are a large multinational company, a small business or a freelance worker, it pays to know about equality and diversity in the workplace - to act within the law and to make the best of your workforce and your business opportunities.

You need to ensure that you can attract and hold on to skilled, committed workers as one of the key contributions to your business success. One way to do that is to ensure that you become an employer of choice, drawing from a wide pool of talent and skills; this may mean looking beyond traditional boundaries in your labour market and finding more diverse and exciting opportunities.
